Women’s Center Awarded Special Use Permit by City!

BREAKING NEWS!
Sanford, North Carolina- On Thursday evening, July 11, 2024, the Board of Adjustment for the City of Sanford in Lee County, North Carolina approved Sandhills Adult & Teen Challenge (ATC) for a special use permit for the new Women’s Center!    In a Quasi-Judicial hearing attended by approximately 50 individuals from the community, Adult & Teen Challenge, and Spring Lane Assembly of God,  Attorney Nick Robinson, representing Sandhills ATC did a thorough job presenting creditable evidence showing that the new women’s program meets all requirements of the Land Use Plan (LUP) for Lee County to be provided with the permit. Expert witnesses were called to share testimony in support of the program by Tim Carpenter, Site Plan Engineer, Bill Stafford, Real Estate Appraiser, Russ Cambria, Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Toro, Center Executive Director, and Larry Caddell, Chairman of the Board. Some who opposed the project or wanted to share their concerns had the opportunity to do so in the meeting that spanned nearly three-and-a-half hours. In the end, and after deliberation, the members of the Board of Adjustment unanimously concluded that the special use permit be granted to the nonprofit organization and voted to do so.

Next Steps!
The next step in the process is for Sandhills ATC to purchase the 6-acre property located at 1715 Spring Lane Rd. and begin renovations to the former daycare wing within the church facility. The organization is optimistic that this next phase will be completed over the next few months as additional funds are raised and they anticipate a grand opening date to be announced for late fall.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, leadership, and staff, I want to personally thank you for your interest in this new program and for your continued support as we near our goal to put hope within reach of ladies in need of life-changing freedom found here at Sandhills Adult & Teen Challenge!
