Our work involves meeting individuals at the lowest points of their lives—when hope is lost and stable paths feel impossible. Recently, I encountered a young man in county jail who genuinely believed no one cared enough to help him find a different future.
What impressed me most about Teen Challenge was the immediacy of their reach and the speed of their response. The young man found the program we have created through the jail’s internal system, which speaks volumes about their accessibility. After I met with him, the challenge was immense: he was facing release in less than 24 hours with no family support or place to go.
The collaboration with the Teen Challenge team, specifically Dorthea, was nothing short of miraculous. Due to the trusted relationship we’ve built, Dorthea was able to conduct his critical phone assessment while I was still on-site with him. This rapid, compassionate action resulted in him being accepted with a bed date for the very next day. This immediate placement was the difference between him successfully beginning treatment and falling into immediate homelessness and relapse.
I am deeply grateful for the partnership we share with Teen Challenge. Their willingness to open their arms and their swift, empathetic process for individuals navigating crisis is a testament to their mission. I have witnessed firsthand how the Teen Challenge program changes and continues to change lives. They are truly essential partners in restoring hope and facilitating genuine transformation.
